TV Mohandas Pai, who in a surprise move quit Infosys and its Board of Directors, said he is considering the Bangalore University's offer to co-chair its proposed school of economics.

"It is an interesting and exciting proposal. I will be meeting the Vice-Chancellor AN Prabhudev to discuss the proposal. However it requires lot of deep thought to create (the) Bangalore School of Economics as it is similar to the London School of Economics", Pai told PTI.

Pai, who also quit Infosys last week after a 17-year long stint with the country''s second-largest software exporter, said he would discuss with Prabhudev, "what kind of institution he had in mind. I do not want it to be a run-of-the-mill kind. It should be an international institute which could put Bangalore on the global map".

"All this will require introspection and deep thinking. It would be an honour to create global institution. However, this would mean that it should have all right facilities. I am interested in creating a world class institution, but it should have very large aspiration", Pai said.

Prabhudev yesterday wrote to Pai asking him to co-chair the proposed Bangalore School of Economics. Speaking to PTI today, Prabhudev said the University was keen on leveraging the vast experience and expertise of Pai, also an alumnus of the University.

The proposed institute would be on the lines of the Delhi School of Economics. The University was awaiting the required sanction and approval from the academic council and syndicate before it could go ahead, he said.
After quitting Infosys, Pai had said he wants to spend 30% of his time with the corporate world, 30% with his family and 30% on higher education.

"Since Pai had expressed a desire to spend 30% of his time with higher education and in modifying syllabi to be industry friendly, we thought we could make him an offer", Prabhudev said adding that the University also plans to rope in other corporates to lend their expertise.
"I will be meeting Pai in this regard", he had said.
