French automobile company Citroen on March 27 unveiled the first images of Citroën Basalt Vision, a new SUV Coupe concept that will join the brand's range in India and South America in the second half of 2024, the carmaker said in a statement.
The new car has been developed with the direct involvement of teams at headquarters in each region and will be the brand’s second India-made SUV to be launched in the country. The vehicle is also expected to be exported to South American countries.
It will support Citroen's international growth alongside the C3 and C3 Aircross in major markets, the company said. The new car shares some of the features in terms of looks with the C3 Aircross.

The firm said that all three models are part of the same programme to bring to market models with a strong character and a distinctive onboard comfort experience. Basalt is a faithful reflection of this philosophy, it added. The vehicle will be offered to customers in the second half of 2024.
Thierry Koskas, Citroën CEO, said the firm believes Basalt will strengthen its position in major markets.
“We are delighted to unveil the third opus of this programme designed to drive Citroën’s international growth. Developed and produced locally, we are confident that Basalt will appeal to a large number of customers and strengthen our position in major markets,” Koskas said.
The brand has not yet revealed the details about its engine, but according to several reports, the new model, also known as the C3X, is expected to compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv SUV in the Indian market.
The carmaker is likely to use the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which powers the C3 and C3 Aircross. It develops 108 BHP and 189 Nm and could be offered with manual and automatic transmissions. The brand may position the new SUV-Coupe above the C3 Aircross.
