Tattoos have become a popular means for people, mainly youngsters, to express themselves and reveal their emotions, especially during the Navratri festival. As this nine-day celebration unfolds, people transform their bodies into canvases of devotion, spirituality, and personal beliefs. At dandiya stages and Durga pandals, Navratri-themed tattoos are prominently displayed, showcasing the deep cultural significance of this practice.
From trishuls to lotus designs, Navratri-themed tattoos are becoming increasingly popular as expressions of devotion and celebration during the festival. These tattoos also symbolise the wearers’ connection to the festival, reflecting their devotion and individual identity in a colourful and communal setting.
Devotional tattoos have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially during the nine-day Navratri celebration, says tattoo artist Vikas Malani, Co-founder of Bodycanvas Tattoos in Mumbai. He adds, “These tattoos symbolise the spirit of the festival, devotion to Goddess Durga, and individual creativity.”
This blend of tradition and trend allows individuals to express their devotion while connecting with the festival's deeper meaning, giving their body art both personal and spiritual significance.
