If you are on social media, chances are you’ve heard of blueberries more than guavas as superfoods that are nutrient-dense and excellent for your health. However, Dr Manan Vora, an orthopaedic surgeon who often shares health tips on Instagram, explained in his new video how a humble guava packs more nutrition than blueberries.
Dr Vora compared the prices of the two fruits and noted how blueberries have been packaged as “fancy” and “premium,” but does that make them better? He doesn’t think so and clarified this in his video by comparing the nutritional value of the two.
“Better than consuming blueberries which cost Rs 2000/kg, you should have guava that is priced humbly at Rs 100/kg and your gut will thank you. Blueberries have this premium superfood branding, and you see people eat them with oats, shakes, and salads. I’ll be honest sometimes I have them too. But when it comes to nutritional content, guava beats blueberries,” he said.
The doctor first compared the vitamin C content in the two fruits and said, “Guava has 20 times more vitamin C than blueberries. This is a very powerful antioxidant that supports immunity and skin health.”
Fibre is excellent for digestive health, stabilises blood sugar, and keeps weight in check. According to Dr Vora, guava has double the amount of fibre than blueberries, which helps improve gut health and weight control.
Guavas have a lower glycemic index, which means they won’t cause as big a sugar spike as blueberries. This makes it suitable for those with diabetes.
Dr Manan Vora, however, pointed out that blueberries have one antioxidant, which guavas don’t and that is anthocyanins. “These are powerful antioxidants linked with improved heart and blood vessel function and reduced inflammation.”

Dr Manan Vora concluded that blueberries have specific antioxidant benefits and are great for brain and cardiovascular health. But a guava delivers more immune-boosting vitamin C, more fibre, more vitamins, more minerals, better blood sugar profile, and better digestive support per 100 g.
He said, “Blueberries are great, but guavas are excellent and you need to include them in your daily diet. They come at a lower cost and higher accessibility in most regions in the country.”
