The first 1,000 days of a child's life, from conception to second birthday, is the most crucial period for growth and development. During this time, the child's brain and body undergo rapid growth, laying the foundation for essential cognitive, social, and emotional skills. Providing good nutrition, nurturing care, and stimulating learning opportunities during this window not only saves young lives but also supports healthy early development and long-term well-being.
Studies have shown that the building blocks of immunity, metabolism and brain architecture are largely set in these early years, as young bodies and brainsare establishing the pathways that will become their wiring for life, affecting everything from intelligence to the immune system to fight chronic disease.
“Nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life sets the stage for lifetime health. Continuous monitoring, together with a diet abundant in fruits, vegetables, and legumes, is important to build resilience and healthy development of the child,” says Dr Ramanand Prasad, Chief Medical Officer, Jindal Steel Barbil.
