Eggs are considered to be one of the healthiest food options, perfect for breakfast as they provide you with energy that lasts for hours. However, not many consume them the right way. While some wonder if the yolk should be avoided, there are others who tend to go overboard with them for protein intake. And while they are good for your body, nutritionist Shalini Sudhakar shared two mistakes that must be avoided while consuming them.
In her Instagram post, Shalini said, “You make two mistakes. Either you overconsume and intake a lot of calories and fat, or you don't consume them in the right way and miss out on the important nutrients in them.” Both pose a problem. While excess of anything is bad, she shared that people must not stop eating them for their nutritious benefits.
Hailing eggs as “a powerhouse of nutrients and a wholesome food,” she stated some of their benefits. “Each egg gives you approximately seven grams of protein along with vitamin A, B, B12, folate, iron, selenium, and many other micronutrients.” This means they support good health in a number of ways. Not only do eggs help in building muscles, but they also raise good cholesterol, improve brain function, support heart health, and more.

But how much should you consume? Shalini said, “Healthy adults can have two to three eggs in a day, but remember, do not discard the yolk because most of the micronutrients are present only in the yolk.” This is one of the common mistakes people make.
The nutritionist also left a word of caution for those who are working towards weight loss or suffer from cholesterol issues. “If you are overweight and want to lose weight or have a history of cholesterol, then you can have two to three egg whites and one yolk a day.”

Additionally, eggs are known to be the best breakfast food, for they are savoury and keep your hunger pangs in check. They can be consumed in a variety of ways: boiled eggs, omelettes, scrambled eggs, egg sandwiches, and more.
FAQs on mistakes around eating eggs:
1. Is it a mistake to eat eggs with the shell on?
Yes, eating eggshells is not safe as they can be sharp and carry bacteria. Always crack eggs and discard the shell before eating or cooking.
2. Can eating raw eggs be harmful?
Yes, raw eggs can carry salmonella bacteria, which can cause food poisoning. Always cook eggs thoroughly to reduce this risk.
3. Is it wrong to eat only egg whites and throw away the yolk?

4. Do people make a mistake by overcooking eggs?
Yes, overcooking eggs can reduce their nutrient quality and make them rubbery or dry. Cooking eggs gently preserves both texture and nutrients.
5. Is it a mistake to store eggs improperly?
Yes, eggs should be stored in the refrigerator to keep them fresh and reduce the risk of bacterial growth. Leaving eggs out at room temperature for too long is a common mistake.
