Maharashtra man shares his weight loss journey, calls losing 17 kg in 7 months “unsustainable” and a “mistake”

Weight loss can be more difficult for those who resort to extreme measures in their desperation to shed kilos faster. Crash diets and excessive workouts may help achieve the goal in no time, but they don’t last. That’s exactly what a Maharashtra man struggled with after he started his weight loss journey.

Talking on his X account, Balu Gorade shared how he lost weight twice. The first time around, he shed 17 kg but went too hard on himself. The result? He regained some of the weight. However, the next time, he rectified the “mistakes” he made and took it easy by going slow.

He wrote, “I lost weight twice. Here's what I learned the second time. In 2021, I weighed 83 kg. I wasn't comfortable with my body and knew I had to change.” For this, Balu took the task seriously and incorporated intense workouts and 5-7 km runs into his daily routine.

Balu did achieve impressive results. His weight loss was rapid, but it made him reflect on what he could have done differently. “In 7 months, I lost 17 kg. The transformation was massive. But looking back, I realise I made some mistakes in my first weight loss journey,” he added.

Just like most people, Balu too focused on working out at the gym and ignored diet. That’s where he realised he went wrong. He wrote, “Running and intense exercise alone are not the right way to lose weight. Diet matters more than we think. When you rely too much on exercise, you often lose muscle along with fat and that's not healthy or sustainable.”

This made him gain some weight back and he reached 72 kg. However, now he decided to follow a better route. He lost 4 kg in 2 months with a simple, practical routine. This included: morning walks, healthy diet, almost no sugar, and low carbs.

Balu shared that following this doable routine helps him feel better, both physically and mentally. For those who go too hard on their body at the gym, he said, “Good diet and right habits matter more than hard effort. Choose consistency over intensity.”

FAQs on Crash Diets and Exercises for Weight Loss Transformations

1. Are crash diets effective for long-term weight loss?

Crash diets may result in quick weight loss, but they are not sustainable in the long term. They often lead to the regain of lost weight once normal eating habits resume.

2. Can excessive workouts alone help in losing weight sustainably?

Excessive workouts can contribute to rapid weight loss, but they should be complemented with a balanced diet. Relying solely on intense exercise can lead to muscle loss and may not be healthy or sustainable.

3. What is a balanced approach to weight loss?

A balanced approach includes moderate exercise, a healthy diet, and consistency. Avoid extreme measures and focus on gradual, sustainable changes to achieve lasting weight loss.

4. Why is diet more important than exercise for weight loss?

Diet plays a crucial role in weight loss because it directly affects calorie intake and overall nutrition. Exercise is important, but without a proper diet, weight loss efforts may not be effective or sustainable.
