        A ketogenic diet is high in fat and low in carbohydrates (sugars), prompting the body to break down fat into molecules known as ketones. According to the National Cancer Institute, ketones circulate in the bloodstream and serve as the primary energy source for many cells in the body. Originally developed to treat certain types of epilepsy, the ketogenic diet is also being researched for its potential in the treatment of some types of cancer.
