In the age of social media, it’s not surprising to see several diet trends go viral. From one meal a day (OMAD) to the dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet, people experimented with food and fasting windows to see what works for them.

5 most popular diet trends of 2025

Here’s a look at some of the top diet trends of 2025 that you shouldn’t miss…

Intermittent fasting

Popularised by celebs like Malaika Arora, intermittent fasting continued to be a popular diet all through 2025. Many followed it for effective weight loss, with variations in the fasting window. Some common methods include: 16:8 (fast for 16 hours, eat within 8 hours) and 5:2 (eat normally 5 days, restrict calories 2 consecutive days). This type of fasting is considered beneficial not just for weight loss, but also improving metabolism and lipid levels.

One meal a day (OMAD)

It became highly popular after director-producer Karan Johar said he followed the OMAD diet for weight loss. It is a type of intermittent fasting, where the daily calorie intake is restricted to a one-hour eating window. This helps by creating a calorie deficit and triggering weight loss. It also improves digestion and insulin sensitivity. However, it is not suitable for everyone and may lead to nutritional deficiencies and health complications in the long run.

Dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH)

The DASH diet regained popularity for being plant-forward and including whole foods, with a focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, healthy fats, and low-fat dairy. It eliminates sodium, sugars, red meats, and processed foods, which are the root cause of several chronic diseases. It is particularly beneficial for those with high blood pressure, as it reduces the risk of heart disease.

High-protein diet

Proteins were the highlight of 2025, and what followed was a preference for a diet rich in foods like lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy, beans, lentils, paneer, and nuts. People also got their daily fix from protein pancakes and matcha, which became highly popular. This diet works by making you feel full for longer, aiding weight loss, and maintaining and building muscle mass.

Anti-processed foods diet

This one grew in popularity, as people moved towards mindful and conscious eating. They realised how packaged foods, including snacks, cereals, meats, and meals, can affect health in the long run. Many studies continue to emphasise how consumption of junk food can lead to heart diseases, obesity, insulin resistance, and hypertension. Thus, the move towards more plant-based foods was witnessed.
