Six-year-old Marathi actress Treesha Thosar created history on September 23 by becoming the youngest-ever recipient of a National Film Award, a truly remarkable milestone in Indian cinema.
She was honoured by President Droupadi Murmu at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Treesha's endearing portrayal of Chimi (Revati) in Naal 2 earned her the Best Child Artist award. Among the 332 feature film submissions from all over the nation, her arrival to the stage, wearing a plain white saree, was met with roaring applause.
Threesha received the Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), a certificate and a cash prize. She has already collaborated with well-known names like Siddharth Jadhav and Mahesh Manjrekar despite her youth, suggesting a promising future.
Treesha shared the Best Child Artist award with Sukriti Bandireddi for Gandhi Thatha Chettu, Kabir Khandare for Gypsy, and Shrinivas Pokale and Bhargav for Naal 2.
Treesha took to Instagram and shared the video of the precious moment when she received the award. She expressed gratitude in a long note saying, "I still don’t fully understand what I have achieved, but I do know this much—that through this award, the name of my Maharashtra state and my entire family has been elevated. And as my mother said, in the past 70 years of National Awards, I am the youngest child artist ever to receive this honor."
Naal 2 directed by Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti, was produced by renowned filmmaker Nagraj Manjule.
Naal 2's plot is based in a Maharashtrian rural village that skillfully showcases the close bond of siblings, innocence of childhood and family ties. Treesha plays the role of Chimi in the film, which instantly connected with the audience.
The 71st National Film Awards was held on September 21, 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Other actors who received the National Award include Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Vikrant Massey and veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal, who was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his timeless contribution to Indian Cinema.
