Vijay Sethupathi on working with Puri Jagannadh: I don’t judge my directors by what they’ve done in the past

In a candid conversation with ETimes, Sethupathi explained his approach: “I don’t judge my directors by what they’ve done in the past. If I like the script, I do it. I liked what Puri presented. It’s an action film, something I haven’t done before. I need to push myself into untried territory and not repeat myself.”

Known for not conforming to mainstream formulas, Sethupathi's desire to constantly evolve as an actor continues to shape his career trajectory. This upcoming film with Jagannadh seems poised to offer him yet another chance to break new ground—this time, in a high-octane action role.

Puri Jagannadh, who rose to fame with trendsetting blockbusters and larger-than-life hero characters, has had a mixed run lately, with films like Mehbooba, Liger, and the upcoming Double iSmart receiving lukewarm responses. However, fans are hopeful that this new collaboration with Sethupathi might reignite the director’s winning streak. Speaking about the acclaimed actress, Sethupathi shared, “She has an important role in the film. She is a fine artist. It’s always a pleasure to work with a talented co-star, especially someone I haven’t worked with before.”

In another exciting update, Radhika Apte is also expected to join the cast, marking her return to Telugu cinema after a significant hiatus. While official announcements are awaited, sources indicate that the project is set to begin filming in June.
