Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham received mixed reviews from critics despite being a commercial hit at the time of its debut. The famous pair Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, whose names are Rahul and Anjali, respectively, the same as their character names in Karan's debut film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, also returned to the film.
