Bollywood actor Vidyut Jammwal, who is known for his roles in films like Commando and Khuda Hafiz, is set to make his Hollywood debut with the upcoming film Street Fighter. He will star alongside a star-studded cast.
According to Deadline, the film is said to be an adaptation of a popular video game of the same name from the studio Legendary. He will star alongside Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Callina Liang, Roman Reigns, Orville Peck, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson and David Dastmalchian.
Vidyut will portray the role of Dalsim, a yogi with fire-spitting abilities. His character is a fundamentally peaceful man who fights to support his family. Meanwhile, Andrew will play the role of Ryu, Noah as Ken, Callina as Chun-Li, David as M. Bison, Cody as Guile, Jason as Blanka, Curtis as Balrog, Orville as Vega, Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.
The upcoming film is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who is known for movies such as Bad Trip and Aardvark. The film will begin production in August in Australia. Legendary is co-developing and co-producing alongside Capcom.
For the unversed, Japanese company Capcom launched Street Fighter as an arcade game in 1987 and instantly became a pop culture hit, followed by 1991’s Street Fighter II, which revolutionised the one-on-one gaming experience.
Street Fighter is a one-on-one fighting game where players choose a character with a unique fighting style and take on opponents with punches, kicks, and special moves. The latest instalment, Street Fighter 6, was released in June 2023 and took home the Best Fighting Game award at The Game Awards 2023.
