Marathi film and theatre actress Jyoti Chandekar has passed away at the age of 68 after a prolonged illness. She breathed her last in Pune, leaving behind a rich legacy in cinema and theatre. Chandekar was the mother of popular Marathi actress Tejaswini Pandit, who expressed deep grief at her mother’s loss. The funeral will take place at Pune’s Vaikunth crematorium.

Jyoti Chandekar was known for her powerful acting and strong screen presence. She played memorable roles in both films and television shows. One of her most appreciated performances was in the film Mee Sindhutai Sapkal (2010), where she portrayed Sindhutai’s mother. The film was widely praised, and her role received much appreciation from critics and audiences alike. She also worked in films like Guru(2016), Deva Ek Atrangi (2017), and Ticha Umbartha.

Her career spanned over five decades, beginning when she was just 12 years old. Over the years, she acted in numerous Marathi films, dramas, and TV serials. She was known for playing a wide range of characters with depth and honesty. Movies like Dharmakanya, Dholki, Paoolwaat, and Sojourner featured her in important roles. On television, she became popular through serials like Tujha Majha Breakup and Tu Sukhakarta.

A unique moment in her career came in 2015 when she worked alongside her daughter Tejaswini Pandit in the award-winning film Ticha Umbartha, directed by Dipti Ghonsikar. Jyoti played the role of Tejaswini’s mother-in-law in the story, and both were highly praised for their performances.

Her contribution to the Marathi industry was recognized with several awards, and she was also honored with the prestigious Bal Gandharva Jeevangaurav award for her long and remarkable career. Audiences admired her dedication and sincerity, which made her a respected figure in the industry.
