Unni Mukundan clarifies rift with Tovino Thomas

Actor Unni Mukundan of Marco fame has finally broken his silence and has given a detailed statement on the ongoing controversy of assault allegations by his former manager Vipin Kumar.

The actor has vocally denied the claims and has even taken to social media to express his views, he showed a WhatsApp chat with actor Tovino Thomas to prove his point.

The Allegations

The scandal broke out when Vipin Kumar filed a police complaint against Unni Mukundan for manhandling him for posting comments in support of Tovino Thomas’ latest film Narivetta. Kumar accused Mukundan of assaulting him in outrage for his comments. A formal complaint was then filed and a police case was filed against Mukundan.

Unni Mukundan’s Response

Unni posted an extensive statement on Instagram, passionately denying any claims. In his note, he stated: “Vipin Kumar called me when I was on the verge of launching my first film in 2018 under my home banner. He was never hired officially as my manager. There was no physical violence, he said. The spot where the alleged incident took place is under full CCTV surveillance.”

He further noted that there were a few complaints lodged by industry insiders as well against Vipin. “I began to get complaints from new and even established filmmakers about his gossiping and general unprofessional conduct,” the actor wrote, “when I tried to talk to him about this, Vipin could not have cared less.”

Unni said that since Vipin had access to all his digital data he had also demanded a written apology, but it never happened. Instead, he said, a false narrative spread online.

“It has the backing of some of my industry friends, he says. But rather than address this issue privately as I wanted to do, I was forced to defend myself publicly against false, fake, and baseless allegations being made against me.

Unni took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a screenshot of his WhatsApp chat with actor Tovino Thomas in an attempt to quell the speculations about jealousy or competition over Narivetta that triggered the alleged spat. The chat was the proof of a healthy equation between the two actors, indicating that all is well between them.

Tovino Thomas is yet to speak on the controversy in clear terms as of now but Unni Mukundan’s ‘exposing’ their private chat comes at a juncture where he may be trying to cut himself off from the assumed motive behind the attack.

With the matter still in the courts, it is unclear how the case will proceed. On the other hand, Unni Mukundan keeps saying that he's innocent and that he will take the necessary legal action to prove this.
