Actors Aly Goni and Iqbal Khan reacted to the recent tragic situation in Jammu and Kashmir after a cloudburst in Jammu’s Doda town triggered flash floods and landslides on Wednesday. The tragedy has led to widespread devastation.
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, both actors expressed their concerns over the tragic situation. Aly has recently returned from his J&K trip and shared that his father and relatives are still stuck in the flood-hit region.
The actor said, “The situation is challenging, with waterlogging, landslides, and transport disruptions.” He informed that his mother is in Mumbai with him, adding, “My father and other relatives are in Jammu. Though networks were disrupted, I was eventually able to speak to dad; they are all fine, so it’s a big relief. But such natural calamities are a real test for us all.”
Meanwhile, actor Iqbal Khan has also expressed his concerns as his parents are currently stuck in Srinagar. He also revealed that he wasn’t able to contact his parents as networks are completely blocked in the region.
He told the outlet, “My parents are stuck in Srinagar; I haven’t been able to get in touch with them since morning. While there’s no rain in Srinagar like there is in Jammu, networks are completely blocked and there is no internet.”
He further noted, “I even received a voicemail from my father asking me to call him on his number, but unfortunately I’ve had no luck.”
For the unversed, critical infrastructure, including air and rail transportation as well as digital connectivity with the rest of the country, has been completely blocked due to heavy rain in Jammu. Several videos of the productions have been halted due to the lack of access to Jammu.
According to PTI, heavy rains were experienced in the Kashmir valley overnight, where the main Jhelum river has crossed the flood alert mark of 21 ft at Sangam in Anantnag district and 18 ft downstream at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar this morning.
The death toll in related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir rose to 36 in the last two days. Most of them were victims of the landslide on the Vaishno Devi route. Around 20 people were injured in the landslide triggered by incessant heavy rain and are currently undergoing treatment.
Massive damage has been reported in the region. However, the telecom services got partially restored after remaining suspended for over 22 hours.
