Singer Suchitra has once again found herself in the headlines, this time not for her music or outspoken views, but for painful allegations about her personal life.
In a series of emotional Instagram videos, the singer accused her fiancé, Chennai High Court lawyer Shunmugaraj, of taking over her house and finances, while also subjecting her to domestic abuse.
Opening up to her followers, Suchitra shared how she thought she had finally found love and stability in her late 40s. “After the Suchi Leaks controversy, I thought nothing worse could ever happen to me. But, it happened. I fell in love. When I was 48, I got into a relationship. Everything that I never thought would happen to me happened to me.”
She explained that she was almost engaged to him and even referred to him as her husband in an old interview. “I was in for marriage, I was almost engaged. This was a person I had known for a long time. I remember saying in an interview that I was married, because we were kind of engaged at that time. His name is Shunmugaraj.”
According to her, he entered her life presenting himself as a saviour after her troubled years. “He walked into my life like a saviour. He told me that society kicked me down in the gut, Dhanush spoilt my name and Karthik Kumar [ex-husband] left me… He cried fool and isolated me from my circle and didn’t let me meet anyone.”
But things took a darker turn as she accused him of exploiting her trust. “He was a smooth talker and took away all my money. My hands are shaking when I am saying this. Stating that he wanted to take care of me, he usurped everything.”
More disturbingly, Suchitra also spoke of repeated violence. “I was beaten by him several times. I never thought that at the age of 48, I’d be facing domestic abuse. He used to beat me like a WWF wrestler… kick me with his boots.” She added that his family was equally complicated, revealing later that he wasn’t divorced and that his first wife even came to her asking for him back.

Despite her heartbreak, Suchitra made it clear she intends to fight back. “I really fell in love. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have given him a single rupee… Now, I am going to court to get everything back. I will chase him till he pays every single paisa back.”
She has since shared further posts, including proof of him using her house address on his official documents, making her case public.
