Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is returning to the silver screens on the festival of Eid after a long hiatus, and fans can't keep calm.
The film's advance bookings opened recently, and there are reports that the movie has already collected Rs 8 crore till now, and it is going to go much higher.
Now reports are that the movie ticket rates of Sikandar are also skyrocketing for the Salman Khan starrer, which hits theaters on March 30.
Despite the late release of its trailer and almost minimal buzz earlier, fans were left wondering what could be the reason. Now as the movie inches closer to its release date, it is undoubtedly bustling. And if the cost of the movie tickets is any guide to the level of demand, Sikandar tickets are over Rs 2000 in metros, and some single-screen theaters are charging Rs 700 for reclining seats.
The booking website BookMyShow had launched advance booking for almost all theaters across India on Thursday itself.
Tickets in Plaza Cinema in Dadar, Mumbai, are priced as high as Rs 700 for recliner seats in the evening shows. It is really high for a single screen. Audiences prefer single-screen theaters because of their low ticket prices, and many fear that Rs 700 for one ticket could turn against the movie as well.
But in Delhi's single-screen theatre Delite, which has been screening movies for a long time, they have kept their usual rates—between Rs 90 and 200.
Talking about multiplexes, in Mumbai the 'director's cut' or 'luxe' tickets are going as high as Rs 2200. In Delhi, the prices are between Rs 1600 and 1900.
But reports are that despite such a hike in ticket prices, Sikandar is already a houseful on Day 1 in Delhi.
Sikandar has already taken off to a flying start days before its release, and the film has already collected Rs 4.03 Cr in India till now.
The movie is just two days away from the release, and since it is an extended weekend due to the Eid holiday on Monday, Sikandar will get a further boost in advance booking collections.
Sikandar is directed by AR Murugadoss of Ghajini fame. It also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles.
