Hollywood actor Zendaya has recently been in the headlines for her surprising engagement tease at Zendaya stepped out to the 2025 Golden Globes. However, the actress is all set to amaze the viewers with a new project.
Zendaya joins the star cast of the fifth installment of the animated fantasy franchise Shrek. She lends her voice to the character of the daughter of Shrek and Fiona. Universal Pictures has recently dropped the teaser of the upcoming film.
In the teaser, Donkey asks the magic mirror who's the fairest of them all, and surprisingly, Shrek gets the title. However, it's revealed that Pinocchio manipulated some photos to make Shrek look more attractive. The trailer also introduces Shrek's wife Fiona, their teenage daughter, and announces that Zendaya will be voicing the daughter.
Zendaya joined an ensemble cast including Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz as Fiona. The film is scheduled to be released in 2026.
Shrek 5 is directed by Walt Dohrn. He also served as a writer and artist on Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third. Additionally, Walt was the head of story on Shrek Forever After, in which he also voiced the character of Rumpelstiltskin. Brad Ableson will serve as co-director.
Produced by franchise returner Gina Shay and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri, the film is based on the 1990 fairy tale picture book Shrek. The animated franchise follows Shrek, a grumpy but kind-hearted ogre, and Princess Fiona. All four films were a huge hit at the box office, with the debut movie winning the Oscars in the animated category.
Zendaya was last seen in Challengers and Dune: Part Two and she has impressive projects in her pipeline. She will next star in Dune: Messiah, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Spider-Man 4 and HBO’s Euphoria Season 3. She will also star next to Robert Pattinson in the upcoming The Drama.
