Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan recently opened up about his personal life and his journey with his two wives, Salma Khan and Helen, in the docu-series Angry Young Men. Known for his candor, Salim discussed the challenges and eventual harmony within his blended family.
Salim Khan married Salma Khan in 1960, and the couple had four children: Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, and Alvira Khan Agnihotri. In the 1980s, Salim fell in love with actress Helen and married her, eventually adopting Arpita Khan. Despite initial challenges, the Khan family grew closer over time and now lives as a united family.
Speaking about his second marriage, Salim Khan revealed how he approached Salma Khan with honesty. "When I told her, she didn’t shake hands with me and told me what a wonderful thing I was doing. Of course, we had problems, but for a very short time. After that, everything was accepted," he said in an interview with Zoom.
He further shared how he addressed the situation with his children. "I told them 'I have got another person in my life. I have married her. I do not expect anything from you. I don’t expect you to love her as much as you love your mother, but I want you to give her the same respect'."
Over the years, the family’s dynamic evolved into one of mutual respect and understanding. In an interview, Salim Khan reflected, "I’m lucky that I have two wives and that they live in harmony. Never mind if that happened a few years later. My wives are good-looking and now they are aging gracefully."
