The Renukaswamy murder case has seen a new development involving 15 individuals who were previously jailed. These individuals, who are accused in the murder case, have recently realized that they cannot rely on Darshan Thoogudeepa, a popular Kannada actor also involved in the case, to help them secure bail.
According to reports, Darshan, who has been accused of being the second person responsible for the crime, is currently in judicial custody.
The actor was caught up in this case after Renuka Swamy, a pharmacist and fan of Darshan, was allegedly taken to a location in RR Nagar and brutally beaten. This assault resulted in Renuka's death due to multiple injuries, and his body was subsequently dumped in a drain near Summanahalli.
The incident reportedly began when Renuka Swamy sent vulgar messages to Pavithra Gowda, who was in a long-term relationship with Darshan. Upon learning about the messages, Darshan reached out to Raghavendra, the leader of his fan club in Chitradurga, to locate and bring Renuka to Bengaluru. Once in Bengaluru, Renuka was taken to RR Nagar, where the fatal assault took place. Reports state that Darshan himself beat Renuka with a belt, after which his accomplices joined in the assault by hitting Renuka with sticks and throwing him against a wall, which ultimately caused his death.
As the case progressed, the accused, who had initially believed that Darshan's influence could aid them in securing bail, have now understood that this is not the case. It is reported that they have realized their mistake in thinking that their admiration for the Kannada actor would somehow absolve them of their actions. With this newfound understanding, the accused have begun taking steps to seek legal relief independently.
One of the accused, Anukumar, has already applied for bail. It is expected that after the charge sheet is filed, other accused individuals will also follow suit and apply for bail. However, these developments have not yet been confirmed, as the case continues to unfold.
In a related development, the Director General of Police (Prisons) Malini Krishnamurthy has rejected Darshan Thoogudeepa's request for certain privileges while in custody. Darshan had requested home-cooked food and other facilities at the Central Prison, but this request was denied during a recent hearing. The State Public Prosecutor BA Belliyappa informed the Karnataka High Court that the actor's request was rejected on August 14, 2024. This decision was conveyed to Darshan’s legal representative, senior advocate Prabhuling Navadgi, who mentioned that they have not yet received an official copy of the order. The case has been adjourned to September 5, giving the petitioner time to respond.
This case has attracted significant attention due to Darshan's involvement, and the actions of the accused, who seem to have acted out of misplaced loyalty to the actor. The Renukaswamy murder case continues to develop, with more legal maneuvers expected as the accused seek bail and the court deliberates on the various petitions and requests associated with the case.
