Nidhi Dutta, a dynamic film producer, is making waves with her second project, Ghudchadhi, following her debut film Paltan. Building on her family’s legacy, she benefits from daily guidance from her father, acclaimed director JP Dutta, while supporting her husband Binnoy’s directorial debut. Nidhi’s mother, legendary actress Bindiya Goswami, has been a source of profound inspiration, instilling values of hard work and perseverance from a young age. In an exclusive chat with Moneycontrol.com, Nidhi spoke about her dedication to continuing her family's film legacy and her heartfelt connection to her parents' influence and support.
You are making your debut as a producer, and your husband Binnoy is making his debut as a director with Ghudchadhi. Can you share what JP Dutta, your father, told both of you when you were just starting out? Did he give you any specific advice on what to do or not to do?
"Actually, this isn't my first film as a producer. Ghudchadhi is my second film; my first was Paltan, which was also with JP Films, my father’s production company. Paltan was where I began my journey as a producer, handling the entire production and the studio. It was a pivotal moment in my career. So, while Ghudchadhi might be seen as my individual debut as a producer, I have previous experience from working on Paltan.
Regarding my father's advice, it’s not something that can be boiled down to a single piece of advice. It’s more of a continuous process. My father, JP Dutta, gives advice every day. We live in the same building, just a floor apart, so I see him every morning and evening. Binnoy and I constantly seek his guidance. Since Bino comes from a non-film background, having someone as experienced as Papa to guide him has been invaluable. It’s wonderful to see how he takes Papa's advice at every step of his filmmaking journey. Papa's advice is woven into our daily lives, and it's not just about specific dos and don’ts but more about the overarching principles and values of filmmaking.Your mother, who is a veteran actress, has played a significant role in your life. Can you share any valuable lessons she has taught you, both as a person and in your career?
"My mother, who is a legendary actress, has imparted numerous valuable lessons throughout my life. From a young age, she taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance. I remember during the filming of Border, when I was just seven years old, she would make me finish my biscuits while explaining how many hours Papa spent working on the film, despite challenging conditions. This was her way of instilling in me an understanding of the hard work behind the scenes.
My mother started her career at a very young age and became the breadwinner for her family. Her work ethic, resilience, and the sacrifices she made have been deeply inspiring. She has worked with many people in the industry and has supported her family financially and emotionally. Her legacy of independence and strength is something I carry forward in my own life and career.
Her stories and experiences in the film industry have taught me the value of dedication and hard work. I believe that my sense of being an independent woman who balances her career and family comes from her influence. When people see me, they often see reflections of her strength and grace."
How is your mother reacting to Ghudchadhi and Border 2?
"My mother is extremely excited about both Ghudchadhi and Border 2. She has always been incredibly supportive and proud of both Binnoy and me. For Border 2, she is especially enthusiastic because of its connection to Papa’s work and the continuation of a beloved franchise.

I remember when I shared the script with her; she was moved to tears at every scene. Her pride and emotional response were overwhelming. It fills my heart to see her so happy and proud of what we are creating. She has been waiting for this moment for a long time, and her reaction has been one of joy and fulfillment.
For Ghudchadhi, her excitement is equally palpable. However, it seems her enthusiasm for Binnoy’s directorial debut is even more pronounced. She was particularly vocal and animated when his name was mentioned, which was both amusing and heartwarming. Her support means the world to us, and we’re thrilled to have her by our side."
