Beloved actor and director Rob Reiner (78), whose work has left an unforgettable mark on television and film was tragically found dead on Sunday afternoon at his Brentwood home alongside his wife, Michele Singer.
According to TMZ, the couple’s deaths are being investigated as a homicide, with both having reportedly been stabbed.
The news has left the entertainment world in shock, mourning the loss of a creative force whose career spanned decades.
Rob Reiner, the son of legendary writer, director, and comedian Carl Reiner, is known for playing the character of Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the iconic sitcom All in the Family.
As the idealistic hippie son-in-law of Carroll O’Connor’s Archie Bunker, Reiner brought warmth and humour to the character, which earned him two Emmy Awards.
After he made a name for himself on the small screen, Rob lent his unique voice to film. In 1984, he released his first feature, This Is Spinal Tap, a mockumentary largely improvised about a hapless heavy metal band.
It was a perfect showcase for his charm as both director and actor, introducing audiences to Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer, with Reiner himself portraying the earnest filmmaker Marty DiBergi.
Rob Reiner’s versatility as a director was firmly established in the late 1980s and into the 1990s. He made the coming-of-age drama Stand By Me (1986), the fantasy adventure film The Princess Bride (1987), and the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally… (1989). He also directed the thriller Misery (1990) and courtroom drama A Few Good Men (1992), showing an outstanding ability to pull different performances from such diverse genres.
Beyond filmmaking, Rob was a committed progressive voice in Hollywood, championing civil rights, gay rights, and political causes close to his heart. “No, I don’t want to be an elected official,” he once said as per Variety.

“I want to get things done.” He co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment in 1987, producing both his films and other major hits, leaving a lasting imprint on the industry.
Born on 6 March 1947 in the Bronx and raised in Hollywood, Reiner attended UCLA Film School and appeared in several TV shows before landing his breakthrough role.
He is survived by his children Jake, Nick, and Romy, and was the adoptive father of actress Tracy Reiner, daughter of his first wife, the late Penny Marshall.
