Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has found himself in legal trouble after a police complaint was filed against him in Andhra Pradesh for allegedly making anti-Hindu remarks on social media. The complaint, citing hate speech and offensive content, accuses the director of hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu community through his posts on platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.
The complaint was lodged by Meda Srinivas, president of the Rashtriya Praja Congress and a practicing High Court advocate. Srinivas submitted video clips and screenshots of social media posts as evidence at the Three Town Police Station. According to him, Ram Gopal Varma's comments were not only offensive but also posed a potential threat to public harmony.
Speaking to the press, Srinivas said, “Ram Gopal Varma’s barbaric remarks have caused immense hurt to Hindu sentiments. His content reflects a complete disregard for our religious values and traditions. It’s more than just opinion—it’s incitement, and that is unacceptable in any civil society.”

He further added that such speech, if left unchecked, could disturb the communal peace and lead to unrest. “No public figure should be allowed to use their influence to spread hate and insult any religion. Legal action is necessary to set a precedent,” he stated.
Police officials confirmed that they have received the complaint and are in the process of reviewing the submitted material. A senior officer at the station noted that a preliminary inquiry is underway and appropriate legal action would be taken based on the findings.
Ram Gopal Varma, known for his provocative style and controversial takes on politics and religion, is yet to issue an official response regarding the allegations. The filmmaker has frequently attracted both acclaim and criticism for his outspoken online presence and unapologetic commentary.
