A 24-year-old songwriter from Mumbai has been arrested for allegedly sending a death threat to Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The police say the songwriter, Sohail Pasha, demanded Rs 5 crore from the actor in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The investigation is still ongoing.
The incident came to light when the Mumbai traffic police's WhatsApp helpline received several threatening messages on November 7. The messages claimed that the sender was a member of the Bishnoi gang and warned that Salman Khan would be killed unless he paid Rs 5 crore. The police began investigating these threats immediately.
Using advanced technology, the Mumbai Police's Crime Branch traced the phone number from which the threat messages were sent. The number was registered in Raichur, a city in Karnataka. Police then sent a team to Raichur to find out who owned the number. The number was found to belong to a man named Vyankatesh Narayan, who was questioned by the police.
Narayan told the police that he did not send the threatening messages. It was discovered that Narayan’s phone did not have an internet connection. However, the police found out that his phone had recently received a WhatsApp installation OTP (one-time password). After further investigation, Narayan explained that a stranger had approached him in a marketplace on November 3. The man had asked if he could borrow Narayan’s phone to make a call. During this time, the stranger had installed WhatsApp on the phone using Narayan’s mobile number to receive the OTP.
The police then focused their investigation on Sohail Pasha, who lived in a village called Manavi, near Raichur. It was revealed that Pasha was the writer of the song "Main Sikandar Hun," which was mentioned in the threat messages. Police believe that Pasha wanted to promote his song and become famous, so he used the threat as a way to attract attention. By tying his song to a high-profile target like Salman Khan, he hoped to make his song go viral.
After gathering enough evidence, the police arrested Pasha and brought him to Mumbai. He was handed over to the Worli police station for further questioning. The police have also noted that the Mumbai traffic police helpline has received at least four similar threats against Salman Khan in recent months.
The police are continuing their investigation to understand Pasha's full motive and to ensure that others are not involved in this threatening scheme.
