Choreographers Piyush Bhagat and Shazia Samji, known for hits like Tamannaah Bhatia’s Nasha, Varun Dhawan–Janhvi Kapoor’s Bijuria, and Diljit Dosanjh’s latest track Kufar, recently opened up about the industry’s growing entourage expenses and their experiences working with some of Bollywood’s biggest stars.
Speaking to Hindi Rush, the duo recalled how Salman Khan ensures premium food experiences on set, often bringing his personal food truck. Shazia said, “Everyone knows a food tent is set up on his films. The Being Human truck is on every shoot and they serve the yummiest food. I remember having lunch with Bhai—the food tasted better because he was sitting in front of us.”
The pair also expressed their desire to work with Shah Rukh Khan someday, calling him “the last of the stars.”
The choreographers admitted that entourage expenses have soared across Bollywood, but increasing public criticism has made stars more mindful. They cited Aamir Khan as an example of accountability. “Aamir sir said since his driver works for him and not the film, why should the producer pay his fees?” they shared.
According to the duo, this shift has encouraged some actors to streamline their teams, though entourage culture continues to affect budgets.
Speaking about Tamannaah, they said, “Entourage is ruining the game and a lot of people have spoken against it, but with Tamannaah, she was very professional and she doesn’t let these things happen. Of course, she also has a team, but her professionalism is top notch.”
Discussing the high-energy song Nasha from Raid 2, Shazia and Piyush shared that Tamannaah rehearsed for only two hours each over two days due to a tight schedule, yet delivered a polished performance.
Piyush and Shazia's remarks come at a time when a growing number of Bollywood producers have been expressing their discontent over the rising entourage cost burden. Filmmaker Karan Johar recently told Komal Nahta on his YouTube show that his objection is a matter of principle and not finance. He explained how productions allocate budget for basics, but beyond that, if an actor wants a personal trainer or special food, they are required to pay for it themselves.
