Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his X handle to mourn the demise of veteran actor Manoj Kumar. PM Modi wrote he was ‘deeply saddened’ by the death of the noted actor.
Manoj Kumar, ator and filmmaker, passed away at the age of 87. He was admitted to Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai on Friday and died of heart related complications.
Mourning the film industry stalwart's death, PM Modi shared a heartfelt note on social media.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema, who was particularly remembered for his patriotic zeal, which was also reflected in his films. Manoj Ji's works ignited a spirit of national pride and will continue to inspire generations. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti (sic),” PM Modi wrote.

PM Modi also shared two throwback pictures with the veteran filmmaker while talking about his legacy and contribution to the Indian cinema.

Manoj Kumar will be remembered for his patriotic films and some years later he came to be known as Bharat Kumar. Some of his hit patriotic films include Purab Aur Paschim, Kranti and Roti, Kapada Aur Makaan, from the long list.
Manoj Kumar was the recipient of a National Film Award and seven Filmfare awards.
Manoj Kumar was born in 1937 in Abbottabad, currently in Pakistan, he was named Harikrishnan Giri Goswami. He and his family shifted to Delhi during the Partition in 1947.
Manoj Kumar made his Bollywood debut in 1957 with the film, Fashion. But, it was Kanch Ki Gudiya, that got him his first break in the industry. He went on to work in many superhit films like Woh Kaun Thi?, Shaheed etc.
