Celebrated for her parts in classic romantic dramas such as O Kadhal Kanmani, Ala Modalaindi, and 100 Days of Love, acclaimed South Indian actress Nithya Menen has talked candidly about her complicated relationship with marriage and love. Although she has portrayed the ideal romantic heroine on screen, her life off screen has not been at all like that.

The Mersal actress disclosed in an open interview with SS Music that her own romantic experiences have been characterized by emotional distress and disappointment. "Every relationship I had ended in heartbreak," she acknowledged. "I kept finding out that the person I thought I knew was actually someone else, or worse, they were just taking advantage of me." "I was searching for something that wasn't there."

Nithya revealed how her perspective on relationships gradually changed as a result of her frequent disappointments. She became aware that she might have been pursuing an unattainable ideal as a result of the emotional toll. She admitted, "I finally realized that what I was searching for just didn't exist."

Nithya disclosed that although she is well-known for her parts in romantic comedies, she has always felt at ease being by herself. "I've never been afraid to be alone," she continued. I was never afraid to spend time by myself.

Marriage Is Not a Moral Requirement

Regarding social norms around marriage, Nithya underlined that although elders might support it for pragmatic reasons, morality need not be attached. "Marriage is not a goal for me," she said in an interview with News18. I'm not opposed to it, but I also don't think I should jump right in.

She clarified that although her parents would be pleased to see her get married, they don't put any pressure on her. The only significant pressure she experienced was when she was younger and her grandmother, who was unimpressed by her career success, kept pushing her to get married.

"Single Status Doesn't Indicate Incompleteness"

Nithya claims that she is no longer subject to social pressure and that being in a romantic relationship is no longer a factor in her sense of value. She thanked her parents for their support, saying, "They know that being single doesn't mean I'm incomplete."

She went into further detail about how her understanding of love has changed during her appearance on The Ramya Show. She used to firmly believe in "finding the one," but now she understands that not everyone is meant to find love, and that's okay. "I've discovered that not everyone can find love and marry. "And it's not a tragedy," she stated.

Taking Ratan Tata as an Inspiration

Nithya used Ratan Tata as an example to emphasize that marriage and love are not necessary for living a meaningful life. "Look at the kind of life he led—he never got married. Great if love occurs. If it doesn't, that's fantastic too. "I don't get upset over it anymore," she said.

To put things in perspective, the late industrialist Ratan Tata, who died on October 9, 2024, at the age of 86, once acknowledged in an interview that he had considered marriage four times but had always turned it down. His legacy and individual decisions still have an impact on people who take less conventional routes.
