Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been in the entertainment industry for over two decades and recently earned his first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor. He earned the award for his performance in Jawan.
After the award announcement, SRK’s admirers showered congratulatory posts on social media, with some critics questioning the jury's verdict. Several critics claimed that Manoj Bajpayee's powerful performance in Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, among other films, was more worthy of the honour.
In a recent interview with India Today, Manoj Bajpayee has recently slammed the comparison and the backlash.
He said, “It is a useless conversation because it is gone. When it comes to Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, yes, it is a very special film in my filmography, and so was Joram. But I don’t discuss these things because it is a very loser conversation. It is in the past, and it should be left alone.”
The four-time National Award winner Manoj also expressed concern about how Indian film awards are changing. He suggested that some prestigious honours, like the National Awards, might be sacrificing their artistic integrity in favour of commercial appeal.
Manoj continued, “It’s not just about National Awards. It’s about all the awards that were revered. They should seriously think about how they are operating. Because it is not about my respect. I take care of my respect very cautiously when I’m choosing a film. But each and every organisation has to think of itself.”

The actor further noted, “That’s not my job. I think for me, the idea of an award show is wrong. It is just a piece of decoration in your house. Every day, you’re not going to stand in front of it and say, ‘Wow, I got this.’”
Manoj Bajpayee has received four National Awards for his stellar performance in movies like Satya, Pinjar, Aligarh, and most recently, Bhonsle.
