James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash hit the big screens on December 19 in India. The film performed strongly at the box office, giving stiff competition to Ranveer Singh’s spy action thriller, Dhurandhar.
According to a trade website, Avatar: Fire and Ash earned Rs 20 crore net in India on its first day of release. The film registered an occupancy of 69.68% in English and 66.31% in Hindi.
Despite the strong opening box office collection, Avatar 3 failed to surpass the record of its second instalment, Avatar: The Way of Water, which collected Rs 48.75 crore in India on its opening day.
Avatar Fire and Ash is facing stiff competition from the Bollywood release Dhurandhar, the spy thriller starring Ranveer Singh, which is now in its third week in theatres. Dhurandhar earned Rs 27 crore net in India on Day 1.
Avatar 3 is also performing well at the overseas box office. The film earned $43.1 million in two days at the international box office, as reported by Deadline. Meanwhile, the film collected $37 million at the US box office.
