Renowned Malayalam actor, scriptwriter and filmmaker Sreenivasan passed away on Saturday, December 20. He was 69.
According to PTI, a source confirmed that Sreenivasan, who redefined Malayalam cinema through his stellar acting and compelling script, was admitted to the hospital at Tripunithura on Friday night. He took his last breath in the hospital on Saturday morning.
Sreenivasan had been suffering from heart problems and other illnesses for a while.
About Sreenivasan
Sreenivasan was born on April 6, 1956, at Patyam, near Thalassery, in Kannur district. He had been staying in Kochi for the past several years. He completed his formal education at Kuthuparamba Middle School and Government High School, Kadirur. The veteran actor pursued a bachelor's degree in economics from PRNSS College, Mattanur. Sreenivasan completed his studies at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, Chennai.
Sreenivasan was also a director, screenwriter, dubbing artist, and producer, besides being a seasoned actor.
Sreenivasan made his acting debut in Manimuzhakkam in 1976, with his career spanning about five decades. He bagged his first lead role in Sanghaganam (1979). He penned his first film, Odaruthammava Aalariyam, in 1984.
He had acted in over 225 movies. Some of his notable screenplays include Sandesham, Azhakiya Ravanan, Varavelpu, Nadodikattu, and Thalayanamanthram.
However, his directorial works include Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, with both receiving critical and popular acclaim. Sreenivasan had received numerous awards throughout his career. He had won a National Film Award and six Kerala State Film Awards.

Sreenivasan married Vimla on January 13, 1984 and welcomed two kids. Both his sons, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan, are also actors.
Sreenivasan is survived by his wife, Vimala Sreenivasan, sons and actors Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan.
