Veteran Malayalam actor, writer, director, and producer Sreenivasan passed away on Saturday, December 20, at the age of 69, leaving the Malayalam film industry in deep grief. Widely regarded as one of the most influential and versatile talents in Indian cinema, his demise marks one of the greatest losses the industry has witnessed in recent times.
Several well-known actors and filmmakers used social media to express their sorrow and honour the legend's enormous contribution to cinema after learning of his passing. Prithviraj Sukumaran, Basil Joseph, Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, and numerous others expressed their condolences.
Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran expressed his sorrow through Instagram Stories. Sharing a picture of Sreenivasan, he wrote, “Adieu to one of the greatest ever writer director/actor! Thank you for the laughs and the thoughts! Rest in peace legend!”
Prithviraj’s brother and actor Indrajith Sukumaran also penned an emotional note remembering Sreenivasan and the impact he had on his life and career. Indrajith Sukumaran shared a long and heartfelt message. He wrote, “Always a part of my childhood core cinema memories! Was a pleasure sharing screenspace and talking your lines in cinema. Thank you for all the laughs and the entertainment. Will miss you Sreeni Etta.”
Actor Tovino Thomas chose a more silent form of tribute. He shared a picture of Sreenivasan on Instagram, accompanied by a broken heart emoji, allowing the gesture to convey his grief without words.
Director and actor Basil Joseph also remembered the legendary artist with a touching post. Sharing Sreenivasan’s picture on Instagram, Basil Joseph wrote, “Srini sir, thank you for all the laughter and warmth you gave us. You were a big part of our childhood and our happiest memories. You may be gone, but you will always live on through your work. Rest in peace, legend.”
Throughout his incredible career, Sreenivasan starred in a number of classic movies that are still cherished by generations. Among his many noteworthy acting roles are those of Billu, Njan Prakashan, Sandesham, Hey Ram, Nadodikkattu, Chithram, Traffic, and Chandramukhi.

Through critically acclaimed films like Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, which are still considered classics in Malayalam cinema, Sreenivasan demonstrated his extraordinary storytelling skills as a filmmaker.
Sreenivasan’s final on-screen appearances were seen in the recent films Kurukkan and Dhyan Sreenivasan, marking the end of an era defined by sharp writing, unforgettable performances, and socially relevant storytelling. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy continues to live on through the timeless films and characters he gifted to audiences.
