The Wednesday actress, Jenna Ortega, recently shared a deeply unsettling experience she had with artificial intelligence as a teenager. In an interview, she disclosed that she found morphed pornographic images of herself online, a disturbing occurrence that led her to delete her X account and approach new technology with caution.
During a conversation on The Interview podcast for The New York Times, the 21-year-old shared that it was a 'terrifying' time for her. "I hate A.I… Did I like being 14 and making a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of me as a child? No. It’s terrifying. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong," she said.
When Jenna Ortega was just 12 years old, she faced her first encounter with online harassment. She received a direct message (DM) on X (formerly Twitter) that included an unsolicited and disturbing image. This incident, along with her later experience with AI-generated deepfakes, highlights the pervasive nature of online harassment and the importance of digital safety, particularly for young individuals. "I used to have that Twitter account and I was told that, 'Oh, you got to do it, you got to build your image'. I ended up deleting it about two, three years ago because of the influx after the show had come out — these absurd images and photos, and I already was in a confused state that I just deleted it, " she added.
