Vijay Sethupathi talks about his film choices

Actor Vijay Sethupathi, who is not only known for his versatility but also for his love for the cinema, has finally opened up about choosing which film to make. People have often asked the actor if the movie was made due to the budget of the project or how much this actor was paid to act in a film.

Responding to such questions and opening up about his choices, Sethupathi, in a recent interview with Galatta, announced he never accepts movies for money.

“In all these years, there has been neither a single movie nor a single time when I only worked for money,” he said with hope.

Even big-budget films don’t always work

Sethupathi further said that big-budget films aren’t guaranteed success, and he said Kadaisi Vivasayi was a good example of that. The film collected only ₹65 lakhs at the ticket window. Still, people praised the film after a point, saying, “I don’t make films for money. Kadaisi Vivasayi didn’t do big numbers, but people still enjoyed the movie. That’s all that matters to me,” he clarified.

On working with Puri Jagannadh

Sethupathi will soon work with director Puri Jagannadh, a director who has recently released a few unsuccessful films. The new collaboration, which stars Tabu and Radhika Apte, has generated a lot of buzz. Still, people are making a big deal out of this movie because Jagannadh hasn’t produced a successful film actor yet.

“In my life, it doesn’t mean how long I will work with a director, depending on the director’s previous work. The story he told me, I liked. I hadn’t done it in my life, and I wanted to experience a new film, that’s why I did it”, said Sethupathi at another discussion.

After back-to-back successes onscreen with Maharaja and Viduthalai, both of which were box-office hits, Vijay Sethupathi now has a couple of movies lined up for release. Ace, which is set to be released on May 23, 2025, is his. The actor’s upcoming movie Train with directed by Mysskin, has co-star Shruti Haasan in its lead role. Thalaivan Thalaivii is his other upcoming movie with Nithya Menen in the lead role.
