The death of Diane Keaton at the age of 79 has left Hollywood in mourning for the loss of a real icon, not only because of her iconic roles in The Godfather and Annie Hall, but also because of the depth of her character's heart outside of the screen.

As per AOL, one of the many stories and tributes that are currently making the rounds is particularly heartwarming: Keaton left $5 million in her will to take care of her cherished dog, Reggie.

Reggie, a golden retriever she adopted in 2020, was far more than a pet — he was her constant companion, her source of joy and comfort in recent years.

In fact, her last Instagram post was a loving tribute to him on National Pet Day, captioned simply: “My heart on four legs.”

Insiders say Keaton made detailed arrangements for Reggie’s future, ensuring he would be looked after in her absence.

According to Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, “Reggie was her world. Diane used to joke her great loves were her children, Al Pacino, architecture — and that dog.”

The funds will not only provide Reggie with a private home and caretakers, but also continue Keaton’s legacy of supporting animal charities — something she had done passionately for decades.

“She wanted Reggie to live with the same dignity and humour she did,” another source shared. “It's the most Diane thing ever – eccentric, kind, and deeply loving.”

Keaton’s deep connection to animals was no secret. She worked closely with the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Southern California for over 20 years. The shelter’s president, Mike Arms, remembered her as “a genuine person… not somebody who just talked about animals, but somebody who really cared.”

She wasn’t just a spokesperson — she was hands-on. Arms recalled her calling him to help rescue animals she found on the streets. And it wasn’t just him.

One fan shared a moving story of Keaton joining her, unprompted, to try and save a stray dog on Sunset Boulevard. “I walked away knowing that I had just spent the afternoon with the very best of humans,” they wrote.
