Guddi Maruti recalls an incident on Divya Bharti, says, " “She had no fear of the height. She was fearless, and I couldn’t understand why."
Guddi Maruti, an actress renowned for her comedic roles in both television and Bollywood, gained fame through her memorable performances in films such as Khiladi, Shola Aur Shabnam, Aashik Aawara, Dulhe Raja, and Biwi No. 1.
In a recent interview, Guddi Maruti shared a chilling encounter with the late actress Divya Bharti, who was the first wife of renowned producer Sajid Nadiadwala.
Divya Bharti was once one of the brightest stars of Bollywood, known for her natural charm and talent. By the age of 19, she had already starred in 21 films, making her one of the most sought-after actresses in the industry. However, her promising career was tragically cut short when she died in 1993 under mysterious circumstances. On April 5, 1993, Divya fell from the fifth floor of her apartment in Mumbai. She was just 19 years old, and her sudden death left the film industry and her fans in complete shock.
The circumstances surrounding Divya Bharti’s death have remained a subject of intense speculation. While some believe it was a tragic accident, others suspect foul play, with theories of murder circulating for years. The mystery of her untimely demise continues to haunt those who were close to her, including her friends, family, and colleagues. Despite multiple theories, the true cause of Divya’s death remains unresolved, leaving a lingering sense of uncertainty that still fascinates and disturbs many to this day.
Actress Guddi Maruti, who shared screen space with Divya Bharti in films like 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin', was among those deeply affected by the young actress’s tragic passing. In a recent interview, Guddi reminisced about her time with Divya and opened up about some unsettling moments that have lingered with her ever since. Sharing her personal reflections, Guddi revealed the haunting memories of their time together, offering a rare and emotional glimpse into Divya's life off-screen.
She remembered Divya fondly as a "nice girl" and shared an encounter that has stayed with her over the years. One evening, while Guddi was buying ice cream near Divya’s apartment in Juhu, she suddenly heard her name being called from above. Looking up, she was startled to see Divya sitting casually on the parapet of her high-rise apartment, with her legs dangling over the edge, not being mattered by the height. Concerned, Guddi called out to her friend, urging her to be cautious. However, Divya, with her usual confidence and fearlessness, dismissed her worries, saying, “Nothing will happen, Guddi, I’m fine.”
“I remember feeling so uneasy just watching her,” Guddi admitted. “She had no fear of the height. She was fearless, and I couldn’t understand why.”
Guddi also reflected on the immense pain that Divya’s passing caused to her loved ones. “Divya’s mother died after her. She just couldn’t cope with the loss of her daughter,” Guddi said. “It was devastating for everyone who knew her.”
Her husband, Sajid Nadiadwala, was also deeply affected by the tragedy. “Sajid was not at home when it happened. He was devastated,” Guddi continued. “He had just arrived in the city after a trip, and the news was just too much for him to bear.”
Guddi recalled, “Neeta Lulla was there and saw everything happen. She was present when Divya fell, and she can vouch that it was an accident. Wo apne husband Sajid ki car aayi ki nahi yeh dekhne niche jhukk gayi thi and tabhi wo accident ho gaya"
