As BTS leader RM (Kim Namjoon) nears the end of his mandatory military service, fans are counting down the days to his return. However, a resurfaced image from his current base in Hwacheon has sparked fresh outrage among ARMYs, shedding light on the reportedly poor conditions at the site.
The photo, originally shared by Yonhap News, shows RM lying on a wooden bed frame without a mattress, with his legs visibly hanging off due to the small size of the cot. Fellow soldiers appeared to be in similar discomfort, prompting concern over whether basic amenities had been provided. Fans expressed their frustration, especially given the base's proximity to the North Korean border and its exposure to extreme cold temperatures.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) noted, “Hwacheon base, where Namjoon is stationed, is the closest to NK with the harshest living conditions. No mattress, legs hanging off, -20 degrees. It hasn’t been upgraded like the others.” Others voiced their anger over why such conditions persist in 2025, especially for someone of RM’s stature, who is not only a global superstar but also a representative of Korean soft power.

Fans also linked the situation to RM’s previous emotional Weverse post, where he expressed a growing sense of restlessness and a desire for his service to end soon. “No wonder he wants to leave so bad! Namjoon pack your bags, let’s go!” one fan commented.
Some netizens brought up Jin’s past remarks from an episode of Kian84’s Bizarre B&B, where he claimed that most military camps no longer used such outdated sleeping setups. However, other fans clarified that Jin, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook were placed in more modern facilities, likely upgraded pre-COVID, while RM and V’s current bases may not have seen the same improvements.
