Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s relationship has always drawn attention, not just because they are among the most celebrated names in India, but because there is a genuine softness and familiarity in the way they speak about each other. Their bond has never been about grand declarations or manufactured couple moments. Instead, it has always rested in the quiet comfort of friendship, mutual respect and growing up side by side. As Virat celebrates his 37th birthday, it feels like the right moment to look back at how Anushka once described what it really means to share her life with him.
The two first crossed paths in 2013 while working on an ad shoot. What followed was a relationship that stayed private for a long time, despite intense public attention. When they married in 2017 in Italy’s Borgo Finocchieto, the world saw only a glimpse of what their close circle had always known: this wasn’t just a star couple, it was a partnership built on something deeply rooted.
In an older interview with Filmfare, Anushka spoke of Virat in a way that revealed the foundation of their love. “I’m married to my best friend. I’m married to my confidant. I’m married to someone I love so dearly just because of the human being that he is. When we’re together, the world ceases to exist,” she said. It was not just love she pointed to, but a sense of familiarity you only have with someone who knows you completely.

She also spoke about how the early years of marriage required patience. Their professional commitments kept them apart more than together. “During the first six months of our marriage, we spent 21 or 22 days together. We were hardly together in Mumbai. In fact, the staff at home gets so happy whenever they see us together at home,” she shared. For a couple constantly in headlines, their reality was far simpler: two people trying to make time for each other in the midst of demanding careers.
At an event at Puma HQ, Anushka recalled what assured her that Virat was the right partner. She said she was struck by how attentive he was. “When we were dating each other, one of the things I was very impressed with… I was like, he is going to be a good life partner because his memory was so good. I’ll forget my phone. I keep forgetting things everywhere. Virat remembers everything so well.”
Today, the two live in London with their daughter Vamika and son Akaay, choosing privacy and a quieter life for their children. The world still watches, but the core of their relationship remains the same: two best friends who found home in each other.
