After winning hearts with his intense performance in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, actor Bobby Deol continues to bask in the love and admiration of fans.
Playing the chilling antagonist Abrar Haque, Bobby appeared on screen for barely fifteen minutes — but those few minutes were enough to make audiences sit up and take notice.
Many even claimed he “stole the show” from lead star Ranbir Kapoor, a sentiment that’s been echoed across social media since the film’s release.
In a recent chat with Filmygyan, Bobby was asked about these comparisons — and his humble, heartfelt response has once again won fans over.
When told that audiences felt he overshadowed Ranbir, Bobby replied with a smile, “Aisa kuchh nahi hai. Agar Ranbir ko 3 ghante sambhaalne the, mujhe sirf 15 minute sambhaalne the. Agar Ranbir woh 3 ghante nahi sambhaal paata toh mere 15 minute ka koi value nahi hota (It’s nothing like that. Ranbir had to carry the film for three hours, while I only had to manage 15 minutes. If Ranbir hadn’t handled those three hours well, then my 15 minutes wouldn’t have held any value).”

Reflecting on the film’s impact, he added, “Isliye hua kyunki Ranbir ka character, jis hisaab se Ranbir ne usse perform kiya… agar usne theek se nahi kiya hota naa, toh mera aana, matlab hi nahi rakhta (That impact happened because of how Ranbir performed his character… if he hadn’t done it so well, then my appearance would’ve meant nothing). I was lucky that Sandeep… See, an action film or a drama only works when you have a strong antagonist and a strong protagonist, and both really work towards winning. It can’t be that from the start, everyone knows the hero will win, that takes away the fun, even for the audience.”
The clip quickly went viral on Reddit, where fans flooded the comments with love for Bobby’s humility and grounded outlook.
One user wrote, “No insecurity, no jealousy, just a pure actor. He deserves all the love he’s getting. Lord Bobby for a reason!” Another commented, “Very sensible answer,” while one fan called him “one of the most secure actors in the industry.”
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal became one of the biggest hits of 2023, earning ₹915 crore worldwide despite polarising reviews.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, the movie examined the nuanced relationship between a father and son who are torn between love and rage.
Bobby has a full plate after Animal's success. Early reviews for his performance in Anurag Kashyap's Bandar, his next movie, were positive when it debuted at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
He will also star in YRF’s Alpha alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, set to hit cinemas this Christmas.
