BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Bruno Mars break records as ‘APT.’ becomes fastest Asian music video to hit 1.5 billion views in just 184 days

BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Bruno Mars have officially made music history with their explosive collaboration APT. — and the internet can’t get enough of it. As of April 20 at 8 PM KST, the music video for APT. soared past 1.5 billion views on YouTube, achieving the milestone in just 184 days since its release on October 18, 2024, at 1 PM KST. That’s six months, two days, and seven hours — not that anyone’s counting (okay, maybe we are).

With this, APT. is now the fastest music video by any Asian artist to ever reach the 1.5 billion mark on the platform. It joins the ranks of global viral hits, tying with J Balvin and Willy William’s Mi Gente for the third-fastest climb to this number in YouTube history. The only videos that reached the milestone faster are Despacito by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee and Shape of You by Ed Sheeran — putting Rosé and Bruno in legendary company.

The journey of APT. has been nothing short of phenomenal. The track gained massive traction early on, clocking in 800 million views by January 2025. Since then, it’s been a non-stop replay fest for fans worldwide, cementing its place as a pop culture phenomenon.

Curious about what APT. even means? It’s short for “아파트” (apateu), the Korean word for “apartment.” But it gets better — it’s also the name of a popular Korean drinking game. BLACKPINK's Rosé shared in an interview, “APT is the name of my single that just dropped, and it’s actually a Korean drinking game I love to play with my friends.”

Fun fact: the song was born out of one of those fun-filled apartment nights. “I remember heading home, totally freaking out, thinking, ‘Is this okay? Writing a song about a drinking game? Is it too silly?’” Rosé recalled in a candid chat with Vogue.

Silly or not, APT. has become a certified global anthem — and Rosé and Bruno Mars are proving once again that when great vibes meet great music, magic happens.
