Actress Meena reveals shocking details about late actress Soundarya's death incident: 'I was supposed to go campaigning with her'

Actress Meena, best known for movies like Drishyam 2, Coolie, Sengottai, and more recently, revealed a shocking fact related to the tragic death of late actress Soundarya as she recalled her dear friend at the promotional event of her latest film Mookuthi Amman 2.

Meena attended an event for the promotion of the upcoming film starring Nayanthara. She spoke about her friend and late actress Soundarya, who passed away in a tragic helicopter crash in 2004.

She said, “The competition between us was always healthy. She was a very talented and wonderful person. She was a very close friend of mine. I was shocked to hear the news of her sudden death. To this day, I have not been able to fully recover from that shock."

Recalling the incident, Meena stated, “The day the accident happened, I was supposed to go campaigning with Soundarya. I was also invited. But, as I don't like politics and election campaigns, I avoided it, saying I had a shoot. I was devastated when I heard what happened after that."

The tragic deaths of actress Soundarya and her brother in a plane crash in 2004 while on their way to an election campaign rocked the film industry. The sudden incident left fans and colleagues devastated, marking one of the darkest moments in South Indian cinema.

The tragedy even took a contentious turn in the months that followed when a social activist accused actor Mohan Babu of a planned murder rather than an accident.

Meena called Soundarya "truly unforgettable," emphasising that her friendship and presence endure in the memories of those who loved her.
