At the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said even after 10 years the Congress could not win the Lok Sabha elections.
“Even after 10 years, Congress could not touch the figure of 100 seats. If we combine the 2014, 2019 and 2024 elections, Congress did not even get as many seats has BJP got in this election. I can clearly see the people of the INDI alliance were sinking slowly earlier, now they are going to sink at a fast pace…," he said.
The BJP won 242 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The simple majority in the Lok Sabha is 272. "We were neither defeated nor were we defeated. Our values are such that we do not develop frenzy during victory and do not mock the defeated. We do not have perversion of mocking the defeated," he said.
On opposition
Modi said the “hunger for power” of INDIA bloc parties trumped everything else. “INDI alliance parties have already started saying the alliance was only for LS polls; it shows their character, hunger for power,” he said, adding that the opposition front tried to paint the Lok Sabha results as a loss for the NDA. He further said the Congress could not even touch 100 seats after 10 years and their total seats in the last three elections were fewer than the BJP’s tally this time. “Opposition tried to paint the 2024 Lok Sabha results as a loss for us but the people of our country know we never lost. I see the 2024 Lok Sabha results as a grand victory for NDA but the opposition tried to reject our victory,” he said.
