In Uttar Pradesh, schools are set for a lengthy 41-day summer break from May 21 to June 30, 2024, giving students a respite during the hottest part of the year. Similarly, Bihar has scheduled an extended break from April 15 to May 15, 2024, allowing students to avoid the peak summer heat.
Tamil Nadu has added at least 10 extra days to the usual summer vacation for students in classes 1 to 9, coinciding with the general elections on April 19, 2024. This adjustment not only accommodates the electoral process but also reduces exposure to the summer heat.
In Punjab, following trends from previous years, schools are expected to close for about 30 days, although the exact dates have yet to be confirmed. Jharkhand has already taken steps by suspending classes up to grade 8 from April 30th onward due to the heatwave.
Maharashtra and Odisha have also moved up their vacation start dates to April 18 and April 25, 2024, respectively, as a proactive measure against the forecasted high temperatures. West Bengal follows closely, with schools entering their summer break from April 22, 2024.
In Puducherry, schools have been on break since April 30, 2024, for classes 1-9. Chhattisgarh offers one of the longest breaks from April 24 to June 14, 2024, ensuring that students are not subjected to the harshest summer conditions.
Karnataka has initiated an early vacation from April 10 to May 15, 2024, while Delhi has arranged its summer break from May 11 to June 30, 2024. Rajasthan plans a summer hiatus from May 17 to June 23, 2024, aligning the vacation period closely with the rising temperatures.
