Dr. Rajendra Prasad was born on December 3, 1884, into a modest Kayastha family. Despite limited resources, his family emphasized education. A prodigious student, he topped the entrance exam for Calcutta University in 1902 and later graduated with a degree in law. In 1915, he earned a Doctorate in Law from Allahabad University, cementing his academic brilliance.
Role in the Freedom Struggle
Dr. Prasad joined the Indian freedom movement in 1917 when he was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi during the Champaran Satyagraha. He soon became one of the most trusted leaders of the Indian National Congress. He played an instrumental role in movements like:

On January 26, 1950, when India adopted its Constitution and became a Republic, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected as the country’s first President. He served two terms (1950–1962), the longest tenure by any President in Indian history. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in 1962 for his exceptional service to the nation.
Dr. Prasad passed away on February 28, 1963, in Patna, but his legacy continues to inspire millions.
