The cricketing world's eyes will be fixed on Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Thursday evening. India is set to face England in a high-voltage ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final.
With a massive influx of spectators anticipated, authorities have rolled out a comprehensive transport plan to manage the crowds. The strategy combines extended Metro services with a strict traffic advisory aimed at keeping the city moving.
The Mumbai Traffic Police has officially warned of significant congestion in and around the Marine Drive precinct, urging fans to abandon private vehicles and opt for public transport. The advisory covers the entire stadium catchment area, with officials anticipating gridlock due to the 7 pm start time coinciding with peak evening traffic.
In a bid to streamline the movement of the crowd, authorities have highlighted a dedicated access point for the 33.5-km underground Aqua Line (Metro 3). Cricket fans travelling on the new corridor are strongly advised to use the B2 entry-exit gate at Churchgate station, identified as the closest and most convenient access point to the Wankhede Stadium. This designated route is intended to help spectators bypass the worst of the road congestion and reach their seats with minimal hassle.
To facilitate this, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has confirmed extended services on the Aqua Line until 11.59 pm, operating additional trains on both the up and down lines to accommodate the crowds before and after the knockout clash. The Metro network, with stations including Churchgate, Vidhan Bhavan, Hutatma Chowk, and CSMT, provides direct connectivity to the stadium's periphery.
For those relying on the suburban railway network, the traditional backbone of the city's commute, the Western Railway remains a key option. The Traffic Police have specifically advised fans to alight at either Churchgate or Marine Lines stations, from where the stadium is a short walk.
Authorities have stressed that the combination of the extended Metro timetable and the focused use of the Churchgate B2 gate is critical to easing the logistical pressure on South Mumbai's roads, ensuring that the focus remains on the cricket rather than the commute.
