A violent clash broke out on the district court campus in Varanasi on Tuesday afternoon when a group of lawyers brutally assaulted a sub-inspector and a few of his colleagues.
The injured officer, SI Mithilesh Kumar (35), sustained serious head injuries. After receiving first aid at the DDU district hospital, he was shifted to the Trauma Centre of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for further treatment, The Times of India reported.
What led to the violence?
The police team had gone to the court to complete remand-related paperwork for Badagaon police station. However, tensions had already been simmering between the lawyers and the police as an SI from Badagaon police station had allegedly thrashed a lawyer during the settlement of a land dispute on Saturday. This incident had angered the lawyers, which later boiled over into Tuesday’s attack.
