IMD weather warning: Thunder, heat & dust storms ahead – is your city ready?

Northwest India is set for turbulent weather between June 5 and 7, with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a reduction in heavy rainfall over northeastern states starting June 5, following intense downpours in Meghalaya and Assam on June 4. However, light to moderate showers are expected to persist across the region for the next seven days, with isolated heavy spells in some areas, according to the latest weather bulletin.

Meanwhile, northwest India is set for turbulent weather between June 5 and 7, with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Himachal Pradesh may experience severe thundersqualls with winds of 50-60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph today, CNBC-TV18 reported.

As temperatures begin to climb, Odisha is on alert for heatwave conditions today and tomorrow (June 5-6), while West Rajasthan is likely to face dust-raising winds until June 9, followed by a heatwave from June 7-9. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha will also endure hot and humid weather today.

Central India, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha, can expect light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds until June 8. Bihar may see isolated heavy rainfall today, accompanied by strong winds up to 70 kmph during storms.

As per CNBC-TV18, the IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies for Delhi today, with temperatures hovering between 35-37°C. "The maximum temperature will be below normal by 3-5 degrees Celsius," the weather agency noted, adding that winds may pick up to 25 kmph in the afternoon. Over the next few days, the capital and surrounding regions are likely to experience a gradual temperature rise.
