A man from Haryana’s Rohtak district died by suicide on June 18, leaving behind a disturbing video in which he blamed his wife and her lover, a serving constable with the Maharashtra Police, for allegedly harassing him and driving him to take the extreme step, India Today reported.

The man, identified as Magan, was found hanging from a tree by family members, who had launched a search after coming across his video on social media. In the recording, Magan accused his wife Divya and her lover Deepak of mental harassment and financial exploitation. He claimed he was being pressured to kill his father and sell family property to fund a bribe of Rs 5 lakh intended to secure a promotion for Deepak.

“I cannot kill my father, instead I am taking my life,” Magan said in the video, India Today quoted. Magan alleged that after selling wheat from the family farm, he gave Rs 5 lakh to Divya. Later, he mortgaged a bracelet and provided an additional Rs 2 lakh. “Even after all these, they are demanding Rs 1.5 lakh more,” he stated, adding that the transaction details were available at his home.

Following his death, Rohtak Police registered a case against Divya and Deepak and have launched a search to locate and apprehend the two. No arrests had been made at the time of filing this report. Magan and Divya have a son together.

“We received the information on 18th (June) that a man recorded a video and made it viral. It was later known that he had committed suicide. The case has been registered. Investigation is being done. There has been no contact with Divya (his wife) yet,” PTI quoted ASI Sanjay Kumar (IO), Rohtak Police, as saying.

As per India Today, family members alleged that Magan had slipped into depression after receiving a video clip reportedly filmed by Deepak. The footage, they said, showed Divya dancing in a hotel room while Deepak filmed her. Both were allegedly seen in a compromising position. The family claimed that the visual and the affair pushed Magan into emotional turmoil, though he never discussed it with them prior to his death.

Magan’s father said he was unaware of the abuse his son had endured until they saw the suicide video. He added that Magan never spoke about it to anyone in the family.

In the same video, Magan also made a startling claim that Divya had not divorced her previous husband before marrying him and that she had a son from her earlier marriage. “I consulted a lawyer who advised me to drag her to court. However, I helped her settle the matter with her first husband with money,” he was quoted by India Today as saying.

Before ending the video, Magan requested political representatives to intervene and ensure custody of his son remains with his parents. “I urge the MP and MLA to visit my home and assure my parents that my son won’t be taken away from them,” he pleaded. He also made a direct appeal to his sister, Savita, who works for women’s rights, to fight for justice in his case.
