Days after a shocking assault in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar, the gym owner said that his son, who was stripped and beaten in public, has left home and remain untraceable. The incident, which took place on January 2, followed a dispute over a gym being run from a residential property. CCTV footage of the attack had earlier gone viral, prompting police action.

According to police, the complainant, Rajesh Garg, owns a house in Laxmi Nagar and operates a gym from its basement. He alleged that the gym’s caretaker had cheated him and was trying to take control of the business. Tensions between the two sides had been building for some time.

On January 2, the complainant and his wife were heading to the basement to check a water leakage when the caretaker allegedly arrived with several men. A heated argument followed, which soon turned violent. The complainant claimed that he was pushed to the ground and beaten with punches and kicks. He also alleged that his wife was molested during the attack.

Hearing the commotion, the couple’s son came out of the house to help his parents. He was allegedly caught by the attackers, dragged into the middle of the street, stripped of his clothes, and beaten mercilessly in public view. CCTV footage from the area shows four to five men kicking and assaulting a naked man, who appears helpless.

Police said the attackers stopped only after officers reached the spot. The CCTV footage has been seized and is being examined to establish the full sequence of events.

Family says sons missing since attack

The complainant said the incident has deeply traumatised the family. “My son’s wedding is in 10 days. He was badly beaten and left lying on the road. Both my sons left home soon after the incident and switched off their mobile phones. We don’t know where they are. We are worried about their safety,” Rajesh Garg was quoted by ANI as saying.

The victim’s mother, Rita Garg, gave a detailed account of the attack. "This property is in our name. Can't we stand on our own property? That day, my husband and I were standing outside the house. Just then, a boy, Shubham Yadav, came and grabbed my husband. When I tried to save my husband, a man named Pintu Yadav came. He stopped his Thar vehicle so fast that my husband narrowly escaped death,” she said.

“They kicked me in the stomach, they pulled my hair. They humiliated me so much... I ran to the police station for help. By the time these people had entered the house and dragged my son away. They stripped him of all his clothes. He was beaten naked. People were watching. My son kept pleading with folded hands... Is this less than a rape?..." she added.

Police said one accused, the gym caretaker, has been arrested, while three others are absconding. A case has been registered at Laxmi Nagar police station under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The charges include voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal trespass, assault to outrage the modesty of a woman, acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty, and criminal intimidation.
