A caretaker at the famous Kalkaji temple in Delhi was allegedly beaten to death following an argument with a group of men over sacred offerings. Police officials said the incident occurred on Friday evening and was captured on CCTV cameras, News18 reported.

The victim, identified as Yogendra Singh, 35, was a resident of Fattepur in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh. For the last 14 to 15 years, he had been serving as a sewadaar (caretaker) at the Kalkaji temple, assisting devotees with rituals and offerings.

According to the police, trouble began when a group of men visited the temple for darshan. After the prayers, they demanded Chunni Prasad from Yogendra. An argument broke out when their demand was not met in the way they expected. The quarrel soon turned violent, with the men attacking Yogendra with sticks and repeatedly hitting him with fists and blows.

Disturbing CCTV footage later revealed the assault in detail, showing the accused mercilessly thrashing the caretaker while bystanders looked on. Yogendra collapsed on the ground and did not move.

He was quickly taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by locals, but despite doctors’ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, according to the report.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched a search operation for those involved. One accused, Atul Pandey, 30, a resident of Dakshinpuri, was caught by locals and handed over to the police. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the remaining accused, officials confirmed.
